Thursday 11th August 2016

Welcome back to our BLOG.

Team 2 and 3 went on their summer trip to Walworth Castle, near Darlington, for a Bird of Prey Display. They had a brilliant day out and thought that you would like to know about it in case you are looking for ideas of things to do.
It costs £6.50 admission, £4.50 for carers.
There is a restaurant within the Hotel. (If you forget your picnic!)
Accessibility for wheelchairs wasn't brilliant but this is a work in progress.
Definitely worth a visit.
Open from 10.30 am with Birds of Prey flying displays at 1.30 and 3pm. For the brave amongst you there is even an opportunity to hold the birds or have them fly over you! See photo's!!

A great day was had by everyone

Speaking of Birds of Prey... Did you know that we have a regular visitor to Marquisway in the shape of 'Sparkle' ?

Meet Sparkle
This is Sparkle, sitting with our Blogger, Christine!

This is Sparkle enjoying all the attention when she visited us today!Sparkle is a young Barn Owl, she belongs to a member of staff from Marquisway Bungalow, John Candlish. He has other Birds of Prey too and if you were at our fair then you would have had the opportunity to meet them. We will have some of those photo's for you soon. In the meantime, if you would like to know more about Birds of Prey, John has photo's and information on his website. We'll let you know when they will be visiting us again.

Makaton Signs of the week

We have 2 signs for you this week, they're quite easy to learn as, if you've ever eaten either of them you'll already have mastered the signs!

APPLE

1. Pretend that you are holding an apple.
2. Take a pretend bite out of the apple. (The hand that you are holding the apple in should rotate by around 45' to demonstrate the bite action.)

Banana
1. Pretend that you are holding a banana.
2. Using your other hand, pretend to peel 2 strips of the banana skin downwards.

(Thanks to Peter and Christine for their demonstration)

and finally.....

Don't forget that Marquisway will be closed on Monday 22nd August 2016 until Tuesday 30th August 2016 for the second of summer holiday weeks.

See you next time

We have some very sad news to share with you.

On 28th June, Michelle Maddison passed away. We were all very upset when we heard. She will be greatly missed.

                                            **
On 22nd July, we received the news that Allan Cumberland had passed away suddenly. Allan had left Marquisway earlier this year. He was one of our "characters".

Our deepest sympathies go to Michelle and Allan's families.
