Pancake Day  (February 9th)

Great news!!! Carole, from team 3, will be having a Pancake extravaganza! There will be pancakes available to buy, more details will follow next week.

Did you know? Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday is the last day of "gorging" or "fat eating" before Lent (Ash Wednesday). Lent is a period of approximately 6 weeks that ends on Easter Sunday. If you are interested to know more about the significance of Lent and Easter, please ask staff or your carers to help you.
If there are other festivals or celebrations that you would like to know more about please ask staff or carers or email us and we could do the research for you!

Valentines Day! February 14th

We have asked our resident DJ, (DJ Deeks) if he will do a disco for us to celebrate Valentines day. This will be on Friday 12th February from 1pm. Don't forget to invite your Valentines along!

Did you know? Valentine was first associated with 'Romantic love' back in the Middle Ages!
In the 18th Century it became an occasion to send your loved one flowers, cards and sweets. Valentine keys were also given to signify the unlocking of the givers heart!
Today, Valentines Day is a huge industry, mass produced cards and Valentine tokens available just about everywhere.

14th January 2016

Hi Everyone and welcome back. we hope that you all had a good Christmas and we want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year.

Feedback.

Deacons disco on the 11th December was really good. It certainly got everyone into the Christmas spirit. Thank you to Deacon and Chris from Team 4.

If you remember we had a visitor to the centre on 18th December, ELVIS! Everybody really enjoyed the show and had a fantastic time. Huge thanks to 'our' ELVIS, we really appreciate the time and effort that he put into the show.

On December 21st 2015, there was an awards evening to recognise all the achievements of Gateshead Special Olympic athletes and coaches. It was a fantastic night. Lot's of awards and recognition to everyone that has contributed to Special Olympic events.
Special mention to Gary Cringle who won the prestigious 'Sportsman of the Year' award in recognition of all his hard work, dedication and successes. We are very proud of him and all our athletes.

2016

This year promises to be a busy one. There'll be lot's going on that we will keep you up to date about.

Last year we told you about all the building work, that was being done at Marquisway, to create some more usable space for us. If you remember it all had to stop for a while because we had Swallows nesting in there! Well it's all finished now and it won't be long before we can start to use it.
One of the rooms will be our I-muse room, we are very excited about this and looking forward to us being able to get in there and using the equipment.

This year we will be having a lot more in the way of Special Olympic events. We have asked that we can have information regarding up and coming events, awards and fundraising events so that we can let everybody know about it on our BLOG.

For starters there was a fundraising evening on Tuesday 12th January at St James' Park. Permission was given for volunteers to collect donations from the public outside St James' park. This was on the night of the match between Newcastle United and Manchester United. (FT result 3 - 3!).
It was a very successful evening and £618 was raised. Well done to everyone that turned out to do the collecting. There could be more opportunities to collect at football grounds coming up shortly, possibly at Sunderland AFC ground, The Stadium of Light.
In March there will be a 'Bag Pack' at B&M's store at Team Valley. We need some volunteers to help out packing shoppers bags! We will confirm date and time on our next BLOG.

If anyone has any ideas for fundraising events please get in touch.

There will be a BOCCIA competition in Newcastle on 25th February. More information to follow.

We will be having a Dignity in Care Day again this year, further details as we get them.
